It is quite understandable that Nigeria has produced many resource persons and still producing, in this present time. Nigeria is blessed with intellectual abilities and natural resources. But it is disheartening, that the fate of our country is on the verge of collapse. Nigeria was envisaged by the world to be enlisted as one of the first world countries but now she is dwindling below grassroots level. Nigeria that is called the “Giant of Africa” is now turning to be “The Eskimo of the World”.
Firstly, our world is going towards the opposite direction as regards other countries of the world. Children, the future hope of our country are distracted by so many things of the computer age. They believe in cutting corners, so as to achieve whatever their goal is. They do not have the confidence in themselves rather they depend on easy going ways. Some of them do not cudgel their brains anymore to get valuable things. They rely solely on information and communication technology as their messiah. This attitude our children have habituated will lead our country into a great peril. They have access to irrelevant things that are worthless. Some of them even at their early age have been exposed too much, in such a way that they can’t be controlled.
Furthermore, the Nigerian government contributes a lot towards the pandemic disease that is eating our country like a cankerworm. They do things haphazardly in such a way teenagers believe that their way of life is the best. But our government is not doing anything about it. They lift our educational standard too low that, students now depend on malpractice in order to pass their examination. The judiciary leave guilty persons to go away untouched and hand the innocent people to be jailed. Today politicians deceive the masses with their party-jingoism and after they must have been elected into office. They will forget those that made what them they are. People now see political; positions as lucrative job oblivious of their aim of being there. This obnoxious attitude is permeating deep into the very fabric our country is woven, but should be vindicated. We need Daniels of our time in the political sector, those that will judge and carry out their functions without fear or favour. It is undoubtedly clear t5hat our standard of education, economy and otherwise is dwindling on like the good old days. When Nigeria is full of pride and honour because what she possessed.
The nationalists and those that bled for the betterment of our country, did not have the foresight of what will be our country’s fate it ruled by her people. They fought tirelessly against colonial rule some of them are Nnamdi Azikwe, Herbert Macaulay and many others. Their efforts made Nigeria what she is. If not for their contributions Nigeria would not have been an emancipated Nation. Just like in their own time they have people who made things happens. Some of them are Wole Soyinka. He also fought in his own way against colonial rule, by forming an anti-colonial rule organisation with his colleagues known as the National Sea Dogs Association (a.k.a Pirates confraternity). This man thrived gallantly in the artistic work. His tremendous literary works are undoubtedly authentic. There are other people that have excelled in so many ways. People like Philip Emeagwali, Chimamanda Adichie e.t.c. They have made our country popular.
Nevertheless, Nigerians have to tackle this general problem. They shouldn’t say, how do we go about it. The turtle progresses because he sticks out his head and the snail do so. And what it implies is that we should start from somewhere else to revive our country that is in great peril. We should hold the bull by the horns, irrespective of how challenging the task is. There should be improvement in every sector of our country. Children are the cream of the society and should not be meddled with. Big ships seek for deep waters and so great people are perfected by great problems.
Therefore, we should join hands together in making Nigeria a better place, where there will be, outstanding personnel in future. Nigeria is a great country and there is no controversy about that.
